Day 1: Arrival Arusha, Transfer to Lake Duluti Lodge
Upon your arrival at Arusha Airport, you will be welcomed by a member of our team who will transfer you by car to Lake Duluti Lodge. Lake Duluti Lodge is made up of 19 spacious contemporary African styled romantic chalets ideally positioned for maximum privacy and view inside a thirty acre active coffee farm located in a safe and exclusive area on the outskirts of Arusha. Days 2 - 4: Katavi National Park
You will be transferred by car to Arusha Airport where you will board your scheduled light aircraft flight to Ikuu airstrip in the Katavi National Park. You will be received by our representative and transferred to Chada Katavi Camp. This remote park, isolated in the far west of Tanzania is a destination few people have been lucky enough to visit. Due to this, it feels magically untouched and Chada Katavi sits in the midst of this exceptionally raw, wild terrain. The park is an abundance of wildlife, and massive herds of elephant and buffalo congregate on the floodplains. In the dry season massive hippo populations abound here, and reveal a spectacular sight as over 200 large grey bodies flop together in liquid pools, and baby hippos thoroughly enjoy bobbing on their mom’s back, and playing hide and seek under the water. Nestled under the mottled shade of large acacia and tamarind trees, on the edge of the scenic Chada floodplain is the beautiful Chada Katavi – a secluded, classic safari-styled camp, remotely situated to offer its guests unrivaled game viewing in pristine wilderness. Six beautifully furnished tents boast fine wooden furniture, comfy beds, and a lovely bush bathroom set behind the tent.
Chada Katavi offers its guests breathtaking panoramic views, which can be enjoyed from the privacy of the tents or from the beautifully appointed dining area. Katavi National Park is home to a plethora of wildlife. Here guests can view vast herds of buffalo, elephants and an assortment of stealthy predators. Adventures include twice-daily game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, bush walks with an armed guide and fly camping which will take guests to the heart of Katavi’s untamed wilderness.
Days 5 - 8: Mahale Mountains National Park
Take a scheduled light aircraft flight to Mahale National Park. Created to protect dense populations of chimpanzees the lush forests of the Mahale Mountains National Park are home to these beautiful creatures. You will be welcomed by a representative and your guide from Greystoke Mahale. After a delicious lunch on your boat, start your 90 minute long boat transfer along the shores of Lake Tanganyika to the lodge. Greystoke Mahale is located in the chimp-inhabited forests of the Mahale Mountains in West Tanzania. Head off on daily treks to discover incredible primates. Guided by trackers and scouts you will be divided into groups of six and hike the narrow mountain trails to find them. Once they have been located cherish your hour with them as they play together, irritate each other, frolic, eat, and engage with each other. Housing Tanzania’s densest population of primates, including yellow baboon, red colobus, red-tailed, vervet monkeys and playful chimpanzees in leafy trees make sure to look out for the different colours and markings as you hike through tangled foliage. With its charismatic ‘Robinson Crusoe’ atmosphere, Greystoke Mahale radiates an undeniable air of romance and adventure. It is located at the foot of the densely forested Mahale Mountains, home to a thriving population of chimpanzees. The six rooms at Greystoke are entirely in-keeping with the setting. Built of thatch and salvaged dhow wood, each of the open-fronted rooms is tucked into the treeline, almost invisible to the passing fishermen in their small canoes. A dressing area leads to an ensuite bathroom with running water and a flush loo. The rich foliage that gives the camp such character can be enjoyed while you are showering in privacy. The rooms all have verandas and an upstairs chill-out lounge with views across the white sand to the vastness of Lake Tanganyika.
Indulge in a variety of sumptuous dishes and private dinners by candlelight on the beach with the gently crashing waves providing an intimate ambiance.
The guest area, casually named ‘The Mess’, is loosely modelled on traditional Tongwe architecture. It consists of a bar, dining area, library and small raised platforms that have been converted into cosy sitting areas and boast superb views of the Lake. Adventures include unforgettable chimpanzee safaris, kayaking and fishing. Hike the forest paths looking for birds and butterflies, as well as the other shy mammals who quietly live there. Swim in ice-cold pools up in the mountain waterfalls, take a kayak out for a dawn paddle towards the middle of the lake; drink your morning coffee there and enjoy the sunrise coming up over the mountains. Go for sundowners on the old wooden dhow, lazily following the shoreline and stopping to fish along the way, or just relax on the warm sands of the beach with a drink in hand – glorious for a romantic getaway.
Day 9: Depart, Fly Arusha
Have an early morning paddle into the lake or a cup of coffee watching the peaceful lake before breakfast. After breakfast you will be transferred by car back to Ikuu airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft flight to Arusha Airport
