Wildlife Haven
Akagera National Park is home to a large collection of wildlife, the landscape is stunning and you can see a lot of different animals in a short amount of time. Akagera’s wildlife has increased significantly over recent years and the latest count estimated that the Park is now home to some 8,000 large animals. The new perimeter fence completed in late 2013 should also impact positively on numbers. You will be able to see Burchall's zebras, giraffes, impalas, and topi (known as tsessebe in Southern Africa), bushbucks, eland, African swallows, vervet monkeys, baboons, warthogs, mongoose, hippos, crocodiles, and even an elephant. There are actually more than 120 elephants in the park. Other mammals include oribi, Defassa waterbuck, reedbucks, sable and roan antelopes, buffalos, and many more.
Birding
The park is home to over 482 bird species that can be seen during your birding activity in the park. some of the bird species that can be seen within the park to ensure that you have an amazing adventure while on your Rwanda Wildlife tour include the striped pipit den ham’s bustard, Eleonora’s falcon, tabora cisticola, papyrus gonolek which is among the endangered bird species within the park, dimorphic egret brown crested lapwing, shoe bill stork, western reef heron, yellow-bellied, sooty falcon, Cabanis; bunting, crested barbet, slate-colored boubou, eremomela blue shouldered robin-chat Souza’s shrike grasshopper buzzard, Amur falcon, booted eagle, red-faced barbet northern brown-throated weaver and many other bird species that can be seen within the park.
Akagera National Park has an inspiring conservation story as it is now home to lions and rhinos, and is the only Big Five park in the country, the diversity of habitats is unique including lakes, marshes, savannah, mountains and woodland makes for spectacular scenery
